Way Back Home
Way Back Home
Dir. Supriyo Sen | 2003 | 120 min
In 1947 India achieved freedom from British colonial rule at the cost of dividing the nation in two. Pakistan was born as a country for Muslims. A million were killed in the wake of violent communal riots between Hindus and Muslims. Amongst another fifteen million who became refugees, were the director’s parents. More than 50 years later, Supriyo Sen follows his parents as they visit their lost homeland in Bangladesh. His mother begins a search for one of her sisters left behind during the holocaust of partition. Way Back Home is about this journey, individual and collective memory and historical consciousness.
