‘Flying Tigers’ | reFrame Initiatives Foundation

SSAF supported reFrame Initiatives Foundation with a grant towards Flying Tigers, a film by Madhushree Dutta, for research, travel and audio-visual documentation.

Flying Tigers explores the histories of the Assamese-Chinese community and Bengal-origin Assamese Muslim farmers (Miyas), who arrived in Assam before and during World War II. Both communities remain vulnerable, facing challenges related to their ethnic appearance, religion, and language. They are threatened under the modern nation-state frameworks where ethnicity requires to be single-layered and rigid. This project seeks to document and archive their histories through oral testimonies, family archives, and audio-visual records, with a special focus on Miya poets.
