Reading the Tourist

Reading the Tourist

Reading the Tourist draws from the language and structure of tarot to examine travel as a condition of identity. Each card reveals not a future, but a way of moving—through cities, borders, desires, and expectations. Rooted in I Travel Therefore I Am, the work treats tourism as both ritual and performance, where movement becomes a measure of selfhood. Each draw reflects a travel impulse shaped by fantasy, control, escape or routine. The reading invites participants to reflect on how they navigate unfamiliar spaces, and what travel promises, conceals, or demands in return.
