SSAF Kasauli Art Project

India Independent Books & Ideas (IIB&I), a collective of 9 independent publishers, met for the second iteration of the roundtable on publishing at SKAP on 11–12 July 2026. IIB&I was formed after the first publishing roundtable held in Kasauli in July 2025. This year’s focus was on how to build on the activities of the collective over the last year, programmes that need to be planned and developed in the short and long term, alongside new challenges concerning independent publishing. Several issues related to these were discussed and debated in detail during the course of seven sessions that stretched across two days.
The participants at the roundtable this year were Indira Chandrasekhar (Tulika Books, Delhi); Leonard Fernandes (The Dogears Bookshop and Cinnamon Teal Design and Publishing, Margao, Goa); Manish Purohit (Authors UpFront, Delhi); Radhika Menon (Tulika Publishers, Chennai); Ravi Singh (Speaking Tiger, Delhi) and Ritu Menon (Women Unlimited, Delhi). Swati Daftuar (editor, writer, journalist, Delhi) and Mandira Sen (Stree-Samya, Kolkata) joined the sessions online via zoom. Sudhanva Deshpande (LeftWord Books and May Day Bookstore, Delhi) was unable to attend this year.
