Documents of Art is planned as a series of small format publications of approximately 160-180 pages each, including writings by and on artists, resource books/manuals for practitioners in the various arts, conversations across forms and disciplines of art.

Vasudha Thozhur: Writings

This book is a collection of writings by the artist Vasudha Thozhur. Thozhur has an eclectic and varied practice as an artist, a significant part of which includes these writings. They are often inscribed in her artworks. She also uses them extensively in her art projects as well as in pedagogical initiatives such as workshops conducted by her, and presentations at seminars. Her writings and notes are often in the form of diary and journal entries.

 

Vasudha Thozhur is at present Associate Professor, Department of Art and Performing Art, Shiv Nadar University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.  Born in Mysore, she studied at the College of Arts and Crafts, Madras, and at the School of Art and Design, Croydon, UK. She has lived and worked in Chennai, at the Regional Lalit Kala Akademi studios and Cholamandal Artists’ Village, besides at Garhi Studios, New Delhi, and a short teaching stint at Rishi Valley School, KFI. Besides participation in exhibitions and residencies in India and abroad, she has been visiting faculty at the Fine Arts Faculty, M.S. University Baroda, National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad and Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD), Jaipur.

Gulammohammed Sheikh: Interviews

This book is a collection of interviews with artist, art historian, writer and teacher, Gulammohammed Sheikh, conducted over more than thirty years, and covering various aspects of his life and work.

Gulammohammed Sheikh did his Master’s in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the M.S. University Baroda. He went on to teach art history there for nearly three decades. As an artist he has exhibited widely in India and abroad. He was a visiting artist at the Art Institute of Chicago, and writer and artist-in-residence at the South Asia Regional Studies, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He is also a writer and distinguished Gujarati poet.
